CHESSN notifications removed
CHESSN notifications will no longer trigger on the provider notifications report in TCSI Analytics.

The removal of the CHESSN notifications aligns with previous communications supplied in the TCSI February 2024 Provider Webinar and the March 2024 Newsletter as we look to reduce the visibility of CHESSNs for providers while CHESSNs are phased out.

For more detail on the removed CHESSN notifications, please see the 28 February 2025 production release notes on the TCSI releases and upcoming development page

As previously advised, for the system to identify a student, TCSI will require either a verified tax file number (TFN) or a verified Unique Student Identifier (USI). If both TFN and USI are supplied, both must verify for TCSI to identify the student.

If the system is unable to identify the student, no HELP entitlements will be returned, and both the provider and student will be unable to view available balances in the myHELPbalance portal.

As the system populates the CHESSN field, providers do not need to report, update or remove CHESSN details in TCSI. TCSI will ignore attempts by a provider or their system to supply CHESSN information. However, TCSI will still process all other information that is supplied when attempting to create or update student details . For example, if a provider updates a student address and reports a CHESSN at the same time, TCSI will process the address change as normal, but will ignore the attempt to supply a CHESSN.

A new warning RTV 11055, is expected to be released in May 2026, which allows 13 months for transition. When returned, this validation will warn providers attempting to amend or report a CHESSN (E488).

Providers will continue to be able retrieve CHESSNs from the TCSI Data Entry portal and via your student management system.

If you require further information on the CHESSN allocation process, please refer to the CHESSN management in TCSI webpage on TCSI Support.
