How to read this report

The CGS Clusters by Course Level Live Data Report provides details on Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (EFTSL) by Course Level and funding clusters. Additionally, it includes the EFTSL of grandfathered students for each funding cluster starting from the reporting year 2021 onwards.
These explanatory notes describe the elements and values used in the calculation of each of the funding clusters displayed in the report.

- Units of study for students undertaking work experience are excluded from the report:
- Units of study for students undertaking work experience in industry where learning and performance is not directed by, and support is not received from, the provider [E337: Work experience in industry code = 2] – Applicable to 2021 onwards reporting years.
- Units of study for students undertaking work experience in industry:
- where learning and performance is not directed by the provider, but support is received from the provider and
- where learning and performance is not directed by, and support is not received from, the provider [E337: Work experience in industry code in 1, 2] – Applicable to pre-2021 reporting years .
- Unit of study records for higher degree by research students and students undertaking units on a non-award basis are excluded from the report:

- E534: Course of study commencement date is not used in the calculation of funding clusters in the CGS Clusters by Course Level Live Data Report.
- Funding clusters in this report are derived from discipline code (E464), special course code (E312) and maximum student contribution code (E392) only.
- Providers should ensure that commencement dates are reported correctly in TCSI, as this field may be used for reconciliation and funding assessment processes outside this report. [Update 27 March 2026]
Layout of the report
The report defaults to the latest two years. A button on the top left of the page enables users to select pre-2021, or 2021 onwards reporting years.
Slicers on the left side of the report enable users to select data by:
- Reporting Year
- Unit of Study Census Date
- Loan Status
- Remission Reason
Notes
- Units of study undertaken on a cross-institutional basis are included in the CGS Clusters by Course Level Live Data Report.
- Units of study which have been remitted are also included in the report. This includes E446 Remission reason codes 01, 06, 12, 16, 17, 18 and 19.
- Deleted records are excluded from these reports.
- Unit Enrolments with a census date (E489) in the future are excluded from the report.
- Non higher degree by research students (E310 not equal to 02, 03) who have withdrawn from their unit on, or before, the census date (E601 is less than or equal to E489) are excluded from the report.
- Students who have successfully completed their unit on, or before, the census date (E355=3 and E601 is less than or equal to E489) are included in the report.
- Funding clusters are defined by E464: Discipline code. The latest funding cluster information is available on the Department of Education Funding Clusters and Indexed Rates page. The definition of “grandfathered student” is set out in subclause 1(1) of Schedule 1 to HESA which is available on the Department of Education Grandfathered Student page.
