How to read this report

This report provides the summary and detailed level data for Higher Degree Research Students (E310: Course of study type code = 02 and 03) enrolments by Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship categories. 

It includes the count of RTP scholarships provided to students enrolled in a major course or minor course at a higher education provider for the reporting year. [UPDATED 26 June 2025]

The report uses the Scholarship Type code (E487: Scholarship Type code) to determine the following categories: [UPDATED 26 June 2025]

  • RTP Fees Offset
  • RTP Stipend
  • RTP Allowance
  • RTP Fees Offset, RTP Stipend
  • RTP Fees Offset, RTP Allowance
  • RTP Stipend, RTP Allowance
  • RTP Fees Offset, RTP Stipend, RTP Allowance

Layout of the report

Slicers on the left side of the report enable users to select students by:

  • Reporting Year
  • Gender
  • Citizenship Type
  • Type of Attendance
  • Indigenous Status

RTP Scholarship Type

The value reported at E487: Scholarship type code:

  • 09 A student receiving a Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset
  • 10 A student receiving a Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend
  • 11 A student receiving a Research Training Program (RTP) Allowance

If multiple values exist, the report will provide a count of combined RTP Scholarship Types. For example, ‘RTP Fees Offset, RTP Stipend’ 

Research Type

The value reported at E310: Course of study type code:

  • 02 Doctorate by Research
  • 03 Masters Research
Gender

The value reported at E315: Gender code:

  • F – Female/Woman
  • M – Male/Man
  • X – Indeterminate/Intersex/Unspecified
  • N – Non-Binary
  • D – Different Term
  • P – Prefer not to answer

Citizenship Type 

The value reported at E358: Citizen resident code:

  • Domestic Students codes – 01, 02, 03, 08 and P
  • Overseas Students codes – 04 and 05

If multiple values exist, the last citizenship record with the latest Effective from date (E609: Effective from date) in the reporting year is used. 

Type of Attendance

The value reported at E330: Type of attendance code:

  • 1 Full-time attendance
  • 2 Part-time attendance
Indigenous Status

Value reported for E316: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander code:

  • 3, 4, or 5 = Indigenous Students
  • 2 or 9 = Non- Indigenous Students

Notes

  • The following drill-through reports are available:
    • Details report – This report is filtered to include the RTP scholarship count you have drilled down to from the summary page only and will not include the start and end dates by RTP scholarship type when a student is receiving more than one type of RTP scholarship support.
    • Details report – includes start and end dates for each type of RTP scholarship support – This report includes start and end dates for each type of RTP scholarship support and therefore may include multiple records for a student.
  • Unit Enrolments with a census date (E489: Unit of Study Census date) in the future are excluded from the report.
  • Higher degree by research students (E310: Course of study type equals 02, 03) who have withdrawn from their unit on, or before, the census date (E601: Unit of study outcome date is less than or equal to E489: Unit of Study Census date) are included the report.
  • Students who have successfully completed their unit on, or before, the census date (E355: Unit of study status code=3 and E601: Unit of study outcome date is less than or equal to E489: Unit of Study Census date) are included in the report.
  • Deleted records are excluded from the report.
  • The report may include multiple records for a student in a year when a student has received multiple RTP scholarships. For example, a student completes a Masters (Research) during the year and commences a Doctorate by research in the same year and receives a RTP scholarship for both course of study types.  [UPDATED 26 June 2025]
