Tax File Number (TFN) requirements when updating loans
Recent TFN verification is required for loans with past census dates.

TCSI must verify the TFN before sending new or updated loans and loan reversals to the ATO. Where a TFN fails to verify, no data will be sent to the ATO.

Loans with a census date more than two years old

TCSI will block providers from updating these records in a way that will trigger a loan update at the ATO, unless the TFN has verified in the last 48 hours. Providers will encounter the following fatal real-time validation (RTVs) when attempting to update these records:

When these RTVs are triggered, TCSI will automatically attempt to verify the TFN on the student record. Providers can re-attempt submission within 48 hours of a successful TFN verification.

Resolving TFN verification issues

Students are the owners of their personal information and are the authoritative source for their name details. To minimise delays, providers are encouraged to check with their students to ensure their personal details, including TFN, have been reported correctly to the ATO and their provider.

The Tax File Number (TFN) Verification guide contains additional information for providers, as well as a TFN mismatch guide for students.
