Short pause on loan transfers to the ATO to facilitate 20% student loan reduction

Short pause on loan transfers to the ATO to facilitate 20% student loan reduction

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is undertaking work to implement the Government’s 20% reduction on HELP and other student loans. To facilitate this, there will be a short pause on the transmission of all new loans, reversals and other loan transactions to the ATO until 5th December 2025. Note this only affects transmission of loan transactions to the ATO and providers should continue to report any new student loans or changes to student loans as normal through the Tertiary Collection of Student Information (TCSI) system.

This pause will mean that there may be a delay in some loan transactions appearing on students’ loan statements at the ATO and you may get questions from students. Students will be able to monitor their HELP entitlements and loan liabilities in myHELPbalance. The Government electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF) and TCSI will remain connected to the ATO for the purposes of Tax File Number verification during the pause. Students will not be disadvantaged by this short pause and we will inform you when loan transactions will recommence being transmitted to the ATO.
