Joint award

[Updated on 27/02/2026]

Joint awards involve a single course of study arranged and delivered jointly by two or more providers that leads to the award of a single qualification that is recognised within the Australian Qualifications Framework and is typically conferred jointly by the providers involved.

Joint awards involve close cooperation between the providers in the design of the course of study, curriculum development, course delivery, assessment of learning outcomes and on the requirements for awarding a qualification.

For higher degrees by research (HDR) delivered as joint awards, providers are required to determine which institution is the home provider and which is the host provider for TCSI reporting purposes:

  • The home provider is responsible for reporting the student’s HDR completion and associated information, including any eligible Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships.
  • The host provider records the student’s involvement in the joint program as a crossinstitutional arrangement and does not report a completion.

These arrangements ensure that HDR completions and RTP scholarships are not duplicated in TCSI.
