Student's postcode of permanent home residence is used to map students to a Remoteness Area classification under either the Australian Bureau of Statistics' 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) classification or under the Ministerial Council on Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) classification of regions.
Under the ASGS classification (used from 2011 onwards) the number of students from a metropolitan, regional or remote area can be calculated.
The MCEETYA classification was built using the Australian Bureau of Statistics' 2006 Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) Remoteness Structure, but with specific adjustments to cater for the department's special needs Under the ASGS classification (used from 2011 onwards) the number of students from a metropolitan, regional or remote area can be calculated.
