Classification

| 1 | Internal Mode of Attendance at an on-shore or off-shore campus |
| 2 | External Mode of Attendance at an on-shore or off-shore campus |
| 3 | Multi-modal Mode of Attendance |
| 4 | Completed course for which ALL units of study have been completed either solely through the Open Learning Australia (OLA) or through the OLA and another Higher Education Provider |
| 5 | Award granted on the basis of submission of original work which is not the result of supervised candidature within the Higher Education Provider. |
Coding notes
The following additional codes are used in DEST datasets but were NOT reported by Higher Education Provider:

If a student is attending an off-shore campus as an internal student at that campus, he/she is to be coded “1”, not “2”.
